Why camping on the Costa Brava is great for families

The Costa Brava is one of the best places in Catalonia to go camping with kids. You’ve got sandy beaches, hidden coves and plenty of safe spots for the little ones to swim. On top of that, most campsites here are made with families in mind. Think of pools with slides, playgrounds, mini-clubs, sports and special evening shows. Your kids will love it.
And because many campsites are close to the beach, you can easily fill your days with swimming, beach walks or exploring cute coastal towns. Combine that with the sunny weather and good food, and you’ve basically got the perfect recipe for a fun family holiday.

1. Camping Bella Terra (Blanes)

I love staying in Blanes, because it’s one of my favourite beach towns for families. Camping Bella Terra is situated right on the beach in Blanes, which makes it perfect if you are staying here with kids. It’s just a short walk from the town centre but it remains quiet and family-friendly.
We spent a lot of time in the pool area, which was a highlight for my kids. There are two pools, one of which has several small water slides and fun play elements. The campsite also has a kids’ club, playgrounds and excellent child-friendly facilities that are kept very clean.
Families can choose from bungalows or camping pitches, some located directly on the beachfront. The combination of shade, space and beach access makes this a great option for families with children. We stayed in a bungalow here, which was very neat and comfortable. It had a nice terrace to enjoy the warm summer evenings and the kids could play very nicely here. I can totally recommend this campsite if you are looking for a family-friendly holiday on the Costa Brava. Check out the prices of Camping Bella Terra in Blanes.

2. Camping Begur (Begur)

Camping Begur is surrounded by pine trees and located close to the beautiful town of Begur, which is in one of the most scenic areas on the Costa Brava. The campsite is green, spacious and well maintained. It offers a mix of various rental accommodations and camping pitches. We stayed on this campsite several times and the thing we love about it is the natural vibe it has, especially in the areas that are further away from the road.
Children can enjoy small animals on-site, such as goats, chickens and rabbits, and there are multiple playgrounds as well to keep them entertained. In high season there is a kids’ club too. Camping Begur has two swimming pools, including one with shallow water that’s designed for younger children. The downside is that there are no slides in the pools, but it actually never bothered my kids when we were there.
Good to know is that the campsite is not directly on the beach, so a car is necessary, but the presence of a large supermarket next door makes daily life very convenient.

3. Camping La Ballena Alegre (Sant Pere Pescador)

Camping La Ballena Alegre is one of those campsites that has everything you need during your holiday. You don’t have to leave the campground if you don’t want to, because it offers so many activities for all ages. But even though it’s a large campsite, it feels calm, well organised and exceptionally clean. One of the highlights for our kids was the adventure park where they could play for hours without getting bored. The entertainment programme was a hit too.
The thing I love most about this campsite is that it sits right on the beach, making it ideal for families. We have been to many other campsites and at some you have to cross a busy street or walk a long way if you want to go to the beach. So direct beach access is a big plus at Camping La Ballena Alegre.
If you’re specifically looking for a campsite with huge water slides, this might not be the best match for you. But there is a fun splash area for younger kids that does include a small slide. Furthermore, the campsite has two central swimming pools and several smaller pools spread around the site. This means the pools never feel overcrowded and you’re usually just a short walk away from one, wherever you’re staying.
Camping La Ballena Alegre is a fantastic choice for a family holiday on the Costa Brava. And because of this it’s quite popular so I would recommend booking ahead, especially in high season.

4. El Delfín Verde Resort (Platja de Pals and Platja d’Aro)

El Delfín Verde is one of the most well-known family campsites in Catalonia and it has two locations on the Costa Brava: one near Pals and another one in Platja d’Aro. The resort in Pals is, in my opinion, the most impressive one, especially if you’re travelling with kids and plan to spend most of your time on the campsite itself. This location is very modern and well designed. It has direct beach access and an amazing water park with multiple pools, splash areas and play zones. My kids loved it and we spent many hours here.
The campsite offers everything families could need, including playgrounds, sports facilities, kids’ clubs, restaurants and a wide range of accommodations. Because the campsite is a bit more secluded, you’ll usually need a car if you want to explore nearby towns or attractions, but if your main focus is relaxing and enjoying the campsite facilities and the beach, Pals is an excellent choice.
The Platja d’Aro resort feels quite different from the resort in Pals. This campsite is a bit older and less extensive compared to the Pals location, and overall it’s not quite as modern. However, it does have everything you need as a family and its big advantage is the location. Platja d’Aro is a lively coastal town with plenty of restaurants, shops and beaches. This makes it a great option if you prefer to spend more time outside the campsite, exploring the area, dining out or doing some shopping. Also, if you are travelling with teens, this is probably the better choice, since there is a lot to do in the area. Check out the prices of El Delfín Verde Platja d’Aro.
Both El Delfín Verde campsites are excellent options for a family holiday on the Costa Brava, but if I had to choose just one, the Pals location is my personal favourite.

5. Yelloh! Village Camping Mas Sant Josep (Santa Cristina d’Aro)

Although Yelloh! Village Camping Mas Sant Josep is located a bit further inland, it’s a great option for families. The campsite is set in a green area and has everything you need during your stay. If you want to explore the Costa Brava, the beaches and lively coastal towns like Platja d’Aro are just a short drive away (about 10 minutes). Therefore, having a car is recommended if you want to stay here.
One of the biggest highlights for families with kids are the pools. There are several swimming pools, water slides and a fun splash area where kids can easily spend hours playing. In addition, there are several playgrounds and a well-organised animation programme with activities and shows for different age groups.
Camping Mas Sant Josep offers different kinds of accommodation options, including modern mobile homes, glamping tents and spacious camping pitches. All areas are well maintained and designed with families in mind. We stayed in our own tent on this campsite and therefore used the bathroom facilities on site. The great thing about these is their cleanliness, the cleaning team really does a great job here. Another big plus is the bathroom facilities designed especially for kids, with showers in the shape of animals, for instance. This made showering a lot of fun for my kids.
If you like spending time both on and off the campsite, I think Mas Sant Josep is a great choice for a family holiday on the Costa Brava.

6. Camping L’àmfora (Sant Pere Pescador)

Camping L’àmfora is located on the beach in Sant Pere Pescador and in my opinion its well worth considering if you’re planning a camping holiday on the Costa Brava with somewhat older kids. The best thing for my kids was the water park. There are several big slides here that provide plenty of fun for both kids and adults. But besides the water park, Camping L’àmfora offers many other activities for children, such as playgrounds, mini golf, an adventure course and even a trampoline park. In summer, there’s an animation programme as well with activities for kids and teens, including sports, games and evening entertainment.
Camping L’àmfora offers a good range of accommodation options, including comfortable mobile homes with private terraces or various sized pitches for tents and caravans. The bathroom facilities are well maintained and superduper clean, since they are cleaned continuously during the day.
If you’re looking for a lively family campsite on the Costa Brava with beach access and lots of fun activities, Camping L’àmfora is definitely one to consider.

7. Camping Sènia Caballo de Mar (Pineda de Mar / Calella)

Although technically just outside the Costa Brava, Camping Sènia Caballo de Mar is close enough to be a great alternative for families visiting the region which is why I want to share it with you.
The campsite has multiple swimming pools to cool you and your kids off during the warm summer months. My kids loved the slides and the splash park and although the temperature wasn’t very high when we stayed at this campsite, they kept themselves entertained in the water area for a long time. Besides the pools there is a playground on-site and another one located on the beach just a few minutes away. Furthermore there is an animation programme for all ages with lots of different activities and shows.
Camping Sènia Caballo de Mar offers clean mobile homes, bungalows, glamping tents and camping pitches. Part of them are right along the beach. The rest of the campsite is on the other side of the train tracks and the road. From there the private beach area is accessible through a tunnel.
Its location close to the train station makes day trips to Barcelona or nearby Costa Brava towns easy and accessible without a car. But since both Pineda de Mar and Calella are within walking distance you could easily stay close by to enjoy the restaurants, shops and entertainment here. Check out the prices of Camping Sènia Caballo de Mar.

Final thoughts

The Costa Brava offers a huge variety of family-friendly campsites, and sometimes it’s difficult to find one that is perfectly suited to your family’s needs. Hopefully, this article has made your search a bit easier. Whether you want a holiday full of activities or a calm and relaxing stay near the sea, in my opinion these campsites offer excellent options for families in this beautiful part of Catalonia. These are my personal favourites, but there are of course many more great options on the Costa Brava, depending on your travel style.
